Hi

I'm having issues with my megane cutting out when idle and the garage said its probably the Accelerator and Potentiometer.

I went to the scrappers and got what i needed thanks to this link (http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=153081)

but i'm not sure if i can just swap it or if it needs to be reprogrammed as well.

Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks

Edit: Forgot to say its a 2004 Megane 1.6 VVT Dynamique

I will be very surprised if the engine cutting out is caused by pedal as ECU will go into defect/see me home function . Have you got any fault code.

I'm not sure he didn't say when he looked at it.

What he did show me was the live readings and it said the pedal was at 75 fully down and 18 fully up and they should be reading 100 and 0 so thats a problem that needs fixing as well.

I was a little vague and used the wrong wording on my fault, its not actually cutting out per se.

The revs drop and the car stalls but i can restart and go again and keep the car going as long as i give it some gas. It idles fine on the first start but after setting off the problem starts and after that it wont idle for long (maybe not at all i cant remember, ill try again tomorrow) and the rev counter just plummets to stall.

Also when its idling at first start if i press the accelerator down a little the revs will go down until i press more and it will go up.

It started out of the blue when i was coming up to some traffic lights and dropped the clutch, and it happened every time after that so it was a nightmare getting home .

After looking around the forums i have cleaned the TDC (which helped it starting although its still only starting at the second attempt), the throttle body and am going to replace the Camshaft sensor tomorrow.

I've read that it could be the Dephaser as well but tbh i'm new to all this and read loads of stuff and my brain is pickled.

It idles from cold fine and wont stall at all pressing the clutch or brake, it stalls when i put my clutch down after i've set off. (not sure how soon ill try tomorrow)

Even when changing gear the revs drop massively.
It does seem as though if i left the clutch down when changing gear it would stall because the revs drop really fast but i didn't do that because i have no idea what damage it would do if any.

If i need to give it a run to be more precise, ill test whatever you suggest and report back.

Right a bit more detail.

I sat in the car earlier and left if idling for ten minutes. It started at 900 rpm (before the fault it idled at 750 rpm) and after 10 minutes it had dropped to 750 and stayed there so i set off for a drive.

For 10 minutes it was OK then coming up to a junction clutch down and braking the revs dropped and it stalled and it was like that till i got back.

I also kept the clutch down when i was moving simulating a gear change but with no gas and again the revs just plummet to stall even when moving at speed.

As mentioned before after this happens it wont idle at all and i tried using the clutch and brake to start but the made no difference.

I made a video of what's it doing. the first startup is with no gas but the second one is. You can see it wanting to stop at 750 but it just wont.
